Saltram at Night

One of our favourite haunts (no pun on Halloween) is Saltram house in Plymouth. Usually a good place for interesting flower macros, it was last night turned over to floodlights and colour gels.

Of course, long exposures and blowing trees don't make for frozen images, but the effect is still extremely cool.

Something a little more abstract is more my thing though...

Laurance and Krystel

Another wedding, this time in a slightly challenging location - Polhawn Fort near Rame in Cornwall.


This Napoleonic fort has been converted into a function venue and has fantastic architecture. Unfortunately it has low red brick arched ceilings, which make indoor group photography difficult (but not impossible).


Luckily for us, bad weather held off just enough to let us use the gardens and view for most of the shots.

HDR

So yeah it's been a little quiet here lately.

I'm not the best blogger, I don't say much but I'd like to think that what I say is interesting or important.

So a nice chilly Autumn (or is it Winter now?) morning had me stood on Plymouth Hoe taking shots of Smeatons tower. I'd been asked to take various shots of this last year for a friend, but lost the pictures to a virus soon after approval. Now I'm rebuilding the collection and tried out a HDR (High Dynamic Range) shot in the beautfully lit morning.

It may look a little dark but that is because I am shooting into the sun (or contre-jour if you're posh). Sure I could raise the levels on the lighthouse a little but I think that would look too false.

What I do like though are the rays of light from the sun (there's a posh name for that too but I can't remember it), captured by camera and enhanced by HDR.

But I also like this one, nice and simple, straight from camera.

Lights, Camera...Action!

I love timed exposures, last year I took some nice star trail shots (only to lose them due to a virus...remember to back up everything!).

So what better to do on a dark friday night than take to drag my girlfriend to some dodgy places to take some more shots of car headlights?


This has been made up of 3 layered shots, making the most of the traffic flow. Look carefully and you can see the blue pulsing light of a Police car as it flew through the shot.

Old tracks, new tricks

I recently discovered that an old farm near me had been turned over to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. I used to walk around these fields when I was young, and it was quite weird walking them again.

As always for Cornwall, the views were fantastic.

Wedding

Recently we were fortunate to be asked to take pictures at a colleagues daughters wedding.

It was a hectic day, but fortunately the threatened bad weather didn't show, allowing full use of the location.

It was an honour to be trusted with such an important event, and we hope the very best for John and Lana.
